Questions buyers ask
- What is a self-leveling camera head?
- A head that keeps the picture upright as the rod twists in the pipe. It makes recordings far easier for customers to read and is worth paying for on a used system.
- Do I need a locator?
- If you will mark dig spots, yes. The camera head's sonde only helps if you have a locator that reads its frequency, usually 512 Hz. Check the two are compatible before buying separately.
- How do I test a used sewer camera?
- Push the full reel out and back, watch for picture dropout and rod kinks, check the head for fog, and test the sonde with a locator. Record a clip and play it back.
- Push camera or crawler for a new business?
- Start with a push camera. It covers residential and light commercial work and costs a fraction of a crawler. Add a crawler when you win municipal or main-line inspection contracts.
