List Equipment

Used commercial refrigeration here comes from restaurants, grocers and food processors upgrading or closing. Listings include walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-ins, undercounter units, prep tables, display cases, kegerators, ice machines and blast chillers. Every listing is local pickup: you inspect it, run it and pay at the seller's yard.

What to look for in used commercial refrigeration

  • Compressor age and sound, and whether the unit holds temperature over an hour with the door closed.
  • Refrigerant type: older R-22 units are costly to service; R-404A and R-290 are current.
  • Door gaskets, hinges and any frost or sweating on the exterior.
  • On walk-ins: panel condition, floor, door closer and whether the condensing unit is included.
  • On ice machines: production rating, water filter, and a clean evaporator plate.

What used commercial refrigeration sell for

Used reach-ins and undercounter units typically list from the hundreds to the low thousands. Ice machines, display cases and walk-in boxes usually run from the low to high single-digit thousands depending on size and age.

Questions buyers ask

How do I test a used reach-in?
Plug it in, let it run 30 to 60 minutes with the door shut, and check the temperature with your own thermometer. Listen for the compressor cycling and look for ice on the evaporator.
Is a used walk-in cooler a good buy?
Often, if the panels and door are sound and the condensing unit runs. Plan for a refrigeration tech to disconnect and reconnect it, and measure your space before you commit.
Why does refrigerant type matter?
R-22 is phased out and expensive to top off, so an R-22 unit with a leak may not be worth repairing. Check the data plate for the refrigerant before buying.
How do I move a commercial refrigerator?
Keep it upright, strap it to a dolly, and let it stand for several hours before plugging it in so the compressor oil settles. Two people minimum for a reach-in; a walk-in comes apart in panels.
