- GPM and PSI: 4 GPM at 4,000 PSI is the working range for most contractors.
- Pump brand (General, Cat, AR, Udor) and whether the unloader holds pressure.
- Burner ignition, coil condition and any soot or scale on hot water units.

Questions buyers ask
- Hot water or cold water?
- Cold water handles dirt and mud. Hot water cuts grease, oil and fleet grime in a fraction of the time and lets you use less chemical. If you wash trucks, kitchens or equipment, buy hot.
- Belt drive or direct drive?
- Belt drive runs the pump slower and cooler and lasts longer under daily commercial use. Direct drive is lighter and cheaper. For a business, belt drive is usually worth the difference.
- How do I test a used pressure washer?
- Start it cold, watch the gauge come up and hold, pull the trigger and listen for the unloader to cycle cleanly. On hot units, fire the burner and check for steady flame and no smoke.
- Is a trailer rig worth it over a skid?
- If you work at customer sites, yes. A rig with a water tank lets you wash where there is no spigot. If you wash in your own yard, a skid and a hose are enough.
