Drilling and boring equipment here comes from utility, telecom and geotechnical contractors. Listings include horizontal directional drills, boring machines, drill rigs, mud systems and tooling such as rods, bits and reamers. Every listing is local pickup: you inspect it, run it and pay at the seller's yard.

What to look for in used drilling & boring equipment

  • Hours, pullback and torque ratings, and whether they match your typical bore lengths and pipe sizes.
  • Rod condition and count: rods are a large share of a rig's value and wear out.
  • Mud pump, mixing system and locating equipment included.
  • Tracks or tires, hydraulic leaks and the drill head for spline wear.
  • Trailer and tooling that comes with the rig, and whether the locator is included.

What used drilling & boring equipment sell for

Used small directional drills in the 10,000 to 20,000 lb pullback class typically list in the tens of thousands. Mid-size and large rigs run into six figures. Tooling and rod packages are often priced separately.

Questions buyers ask

What size directional drill do I need?
Match pullback to the pipe size and bore length. Small rigs around 10,000 lb handle service drops and fiber. Utility mains and longer shots need 20,000 lb and up.
How do I inspect used drill rods?
Look at the threads for galling, check the rod for bends by rolling it on a flat surface, and measure wall thickness at the box end. Worn rods break in the ground, which is expensive.
Is the locator included?
Often not. A walkover locator and sonde housing add real cost. Confirm what tooling and locating gear comes with the rig before you agree on a price.
What should I know about hauling a directional drill?
Small rigs travel on a tandem-axle trailer behind a one-ton. Anything larger needs a heavier trailer and often a CDL. Plan the move before you pay.
